Wolves React To Gamekeeper Who Had Been Away On Maternity Leave

“WHERE’S YOUR PUPPY! WE WANNA SEE YOUR PUPPY! DID YOU JUST HAVE THE ONE? DO YOU HAVE THEM WITH YOU? ARE THERE PHOTOS?”

I’m not a hundred percent positive but I’m pretty sure this is the wild life center where I visited wolves.

And the safety briefing included the question “So if you’re pregnant, do you want to know or not?”

Turns out there had been a bit of an awkward situation once where the keepers had casually mentioned a woman’s pregnancy in a group, and she herself didn’t even know yet. Turns out the wolves are excellent at telling if you’re pregnant and the keepers can tell based on their body language.  They get all odd and careful around pregnancy. (Even wolves knows that you have to take care of pregnant people.)

So they definitely knew she was pregnant.

And if I remember my BBC documentaries right, a wolf will leave the pack to give birth and introduce the cubs to the pack once she feels ready for it. And maternity leave is flexible but often around 6 months so they’re going “YOU WERE GONE FOREVER! WE WERE SO WORRIED! WHERE ARE THE CUBS?? WE HAVE TO GREET THE CUBS!!“

Also the two on her back are fighting over who gets to greet her first. Giving and receiving attention is a commodity that goes by hierarchy and if you don’t accept that there will be scuffles.. The wolf lying down next to her isn’t chill about her coming back, it’s just submissive to the other wolves and waiting for it’s turn to show excitement.

Now I can see why we domesticated these adorable jerks.

Wolf packs have maternity leave?

Do you have those days when you’re a Whiterun Guard?

Like the universe shoots you in the face with an arrow and after searching for like 4 hours for a cause or a reason, the only option remains to just say “it must have been the wind” and finish tasks that you actually have to do.

Like what else am I supposed to do, drop everything and keep looking for a ghost?

I got pizza rolls in the oven and I refuse to eat charcoal. The dragonborn can do whatever they want.

CW: antisemitism, pale of settlement, pogroms, genocide, cultural erasure

I don’t think goyim can really conceive of how much Jews actually hold back in our criticism of antisemitism in media, and when you hear us it is often because we see a dangerous message that you don’t… Yet.

I have a complicated relationship with Tim Burton’s rendition of The Corpse Bride. I love it as a beautiful piece of stop motion art, but it isn’t what it should have been, he took a Jewish story from the Pale and with intention stripped it of its Jewish origins. This alone is incredibly antisemitic. The criticism you will hear has probably been “this is a Jewish story, it should have retained its Jewish elements” but have you heard why we feel strongly about this story?

The story of the corpse bride is incredibly important to me and was born from Jewish trauma and Christian violence. Mobs would routinely attack Jewish weddings, they would murder brides and they would bury them in unmarked graves by the roadside still in their wedding clothes, they reasoned that without Jewish wives there are no Jewish mother’s. Jews are intrinsic to the story.

It is antisemitism to take our story, about our pain, at the hands of non-jews and strip it for “useful” parts, in fact it is heartbreaking every time.

We are often forced to pick our battles and fighting a battle over a movie that has already been released by a director with a cult following is not worth it, you only hear us speak up in numbers when the antisemitism may lead to another century of violence, because raising our voice means picking a fight, because so many of you already see our pain as inconvenient and it is exhausting to never be heard.

-anyone can reblog

Reminding everyone that antisemitism is one word. No space, no hyphen. Semitic is a linguistic category, a language can be Semitic but people can’t be.

The term antisemitism was popularised by white supremacists who wanted to replace the term JudenHaas (Jew Hatred) and make their hatred of Jews sound more scientific. The term antisemitism was popularised by the proto-fascist Wilhelm Marr in his 1879 pamphlet, “The Way to Victory of Germanism over Judaism,”.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use the term antisemitism, but you should use it correctly, knowing that it has only ever meant hatred of Jews and can only mean this. It’s been the term under which thousands of years of violence against Jews was codified into and justified by the new antisemitism of the 20th century and onwards.

(Tumblr don’t nuke this addition again, it’s educational and written by a Jew…. Me…. to explain correct use of terms)

I think one of the most damaging ideologies towards children is the conviction that having children isn’t a calling but a moral obligation.

Not to be a crazy radical or anything, but children deserve to be deeply wanted by their parents.

Children shouldn’t be a “stage” in life that everyone is obligated to fulfill; childrearing is not for everyone. More importantly, children shouldn’t be state-enforced punishments for “irresponsible” sexual behavior.

Children are people with thoughts and feelings just like the rest of us. They are conscious of the way people treat them. And they can certainly tell when they are unwanted and/or resented.

Fantasy kingdom where Only Royalty Can Do Magic but the royal family is so promiscuous and polyamorous and generous in their interpretation of what counts as family (“Your second cousin’s niece’s husband counts as family by marriage! Absolutely!”) that the whole kingdom is Technically royalty within like. Two generations.

You’d think this would wreak havoc with succession claims but actually once they realize everyone in the kingdom can do magic and therefore everyone is royalty and theoretically fit to rule they decide the only sensible way to pick is to vote on it and accidentally invent democracy. They just have to be careful to keep calling the person they elect king bc no one’s entirely sure what would happen with the whole magic thing if it figures out they’ve rules-lawyered the whole thing.

There is however a whole department of very beleaguered court scribes who have to work out what everyone in the whole entire kingdom’s appropriate titles and rank are because the magic can get very unstable if you don’t know you’re royalty, which includes knowing the specifics of your title. This was supposed to be so that lost princes and princesses could have very dramatic reveals where they discover they’ve had magic all along but will never control it unless they accept their destiny and go to court to learn who they really are but now it means that whenever you forget your title your cleaning spells go on the fritz and you come home to the mop attempting to scrub the ceiling again.

A neighboring kingdom writes requesting a family tree be shared with them for their own records and diplomatic purposes and the court scribes write back “Respectfully, the royal family tree takes up an entire basement and cannot be provided via post”
